Roof covering materials
Metal, tile, fibre cement or flat roof membrane? We help choose a solution based on roof pitch, structure, appearance and budget.
Which roof covering suits your building?
We first examine the roof pitch, load-bearing structure, underlay and desired appearance. During renovation, we also check whether the existing structure needs repair or reinforcement. Suitability and installation requirements must be checked against the selected product’s instructions.

Metal roof
Standing seam, profiled metal and tile-effect sheets. A lightweight covering with many colours and profiles.
Tile roof
Concrete and clay tiles give pitched roofs a classic look; we check the structure before selecting them.
Fibre cement
Modern asbestos-free fibre cement suits many pitched roofs.
SBS and PVC
Flat roof coverings where the substrate, falls and watertight details matter.
Metal roofing: profiled, tile-effect and standing seam
Steel sheets suit new and renovated pitched roofs. Profiled and tile-effect sheets offer different looks; standing seam gives clean lines and carefully finished details. The covering is relatively light, but the underlay, ventilation, fixings and penetrations must suit the chosen system.

Tile roofing: concrete and clay
A tile roof has a distinctive look and individual tiles can be replaced when needed. We consider roof pitch, rafter capacity, underlay, roof windows and penetrations. The existing structure must be checked for the new covering’s weight and snow load.
Fibre cement roofing
Modern corrugated sheets are asbestos-free fibre cement. They can replace an old roof when its pitch and structure suit the selected product. We also review battens, underlay, ridge, eaves and edges.
Flat roofing: SBS and PVC
On a flat roof, the membrane, joints and penetrations must form a watertight whole. We use SBS bitumen or PVC systems suited to the project. The choice depends on the substrate, insulation, falls and roof use. Outlets, parapets and penetrations need particular care.

The covering is one part of the roof
- The underlay drains moisture from beneath the covering and must suit the structure.
- Ventilation, insulation and vapour control are designed for the building.
- Valleys, chimney flashings, roof hatches and other penetrations need carefully designed details.
- Gutters, snow guards, ladders and walkways are selected as part of the roof system.
We help compare suitable coverings, installation and additional work so the quote describes the entire roof rather than just a price per square metre.
